The “ mortgagee” is the entity who made the mortgage -the one to whom the mortgage is being paid – dimply, the lender.
The “mortgagor” is the one to whom the mortgage is made/given – the one who pays – the debtor or “borrower”.
When obtaining homeowner’s or title insurance, a borrower may be asked for the “ mortgagee clause” – this is the exact legal name and address of the lender, which is printed as the payee on both the home insurance binder and the title insurance certificate / protection letter in case of a claim or loss. Your mortgage lender / broker / closing attorney or title agent will be able to provide this information.
