A keyed footer is a term to describe a footer that has a U shaped top. The top can be formed in a way to make the U or the finisher may be able to shape the key by hand if the footing is small enough.

The purpose of a keyed footing is create a better bond between the concrete footing and the structure that it supports. Most commonly a keyed footing is used on walls that may have horizonal pressure such as a retaining wall.
