In Michigan, for example, if a couple buys a home and only one of them is obtaining the loan in their name, but both names are on the deed/title, what happens if the spouse that took out the loan passes away. Is the surviving spouse responsible for paying that loan down or does the surviving spouse lose the house because of not being on the loan? What happens?
