If you live in a one story house with an attic above the wall, check the ceiling rafters above the wall you wish to remove, if they are overlapped above your wall, it more than likely is a load bearing wall.
If you have a second floor, if you have a wall directly above that wall, it would indicate a load bearing partition as well.
Load bearing peititions can be torn down in part, the main thing to remember is to replace the area at the top you removed with a header for the extra support.
I would recommend a call to a local structural engineer or architect to get information on the size of the header to replce the bearing segment and make sure to check if any permits are needed…
