The short answer is yes, you can call and ask them anything but………..
There may be better options available to you depending on the reason you can’t make your payment.
If it caused by a loss of job, major medical, loss of spouse or any other extreme hardship, you may be eligible for a modification which would be a longer term remedy, again, this will all depend on the reason for your difficulty.
Whatever you do, don’t avoid their calls or let the problem go on. Most lenders are facing your same situation, sadly, it’s far from unique and they are being very aggressive in getting you back on track so they can work on the next one.

If it is difficult to pay my mortgage payments at this time, can I call my mortgage company and ask to make interest only payments for awhile & what are the good & bad of doing this?
