MY WIFE SOLD OUR HOUSE IN 2008 IN TALKING WITH SOMEONE THRU THE BANK WE SOLD IT FOR EXACTLY WHAT WE OWED PLUS TWO OTHER LOANS .SO AT OUR CLOSING WE SHOULD OWE NOTHING AND OUR BANKER SAID THAT WE MIGHT OWE 4K AT THE MOST SOLD WE SOLD IT THINKING HE WOULD LET US KNOW IF WE OWED ANYTHING.WE WENT TO THE CLOSING AND HE NEVER CALLED SO AT THE CLOSING IT SHOWED WHERE ALL THE MONEY WENT AND AT THE BOTTOM IT SAID AMOUNT DUE 0. AMOUNT WE OWE 0 SO WE SIGNED AND LEFT THREE MONTHS LATER SOMEONE ELSE CALLS FROM THE BANK SAYING WE OWE 17K….WE ASK HOW THEY COME UP WITH THAT THEY SEND A COPY OF THE HUD AND THE NUMBERS WERE CHANGED ….I CALLED THE TITLE COMPANY AND ASKED WHAT WAS UP SHE SAID THE VICE PRES OF THE BAK CALLED AND TOLD HER CHANGE THE NUMBERS SO SHE DID ….MY QUESTION IS THIS REALLY LEGAL WHAT DID WE EVEN NEED TO SIGN FOR ….ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

You need to take all your documentation to a real estate attorney pronto. Even if title company “made a mistake”, they cannot change numbers on settlement statements after the fact, and certainly cannot do so 90 days after closing. If they made an error, that is not your fault. Love to get them to put the “we changed the numbers” in an email to you…..that would be great evidence for you. Run, don’t walk, to an attorney ASAP!
